Float Trip - Elk - Farris to Shiloh

'Twas a wonderful trip with a lot of new kayaks, good friends, new friends, old friends, (not necessarily mutually exclusive) and plenty of upper body exercise. Thanks to Joette for leading this one; we had 15 people, one dog and 14 water craft. We put in at Ferris Creek Bridge Map Link and took out 12 miles later at Shiloh Bridge. The weather was super, holding off on the deludge until we pulled and loaded most of the boats. However the winds were sometimes very strong coming out of the SW, the same direction we were generally traveling. The water was up and it was extremely clear. Here are some pictures of the float. (Thanks to Dick McClure) Float Pics Also check out Millette and Tony's pics

LeConte Hikers

Barbie writes that "
The Boulevard trail was totally awesome and the weather perfect." Next year plan on taking advantage of the trip. At last count 5 slots were paid for but not taken. If you haven't been up there, you are missing a unique trip. Don Jones, Marcos More', Barbie Taylor, Craig (Don's Grandson), Melissa Freeman, Bill Kammerer and Marcia Medford made the overnight hike this year. Chuck Lawson was also present as was ... Same time next year...

The Pentultimate Eat Hike Eat

Today's Eat Hike Eat took us to KA point, to the Forestry cabin and back to the Equestrian center. Thanks Nora for lowering the average age. The contrasts in this part of the domain are stark; open areas were full of flowers, blackberries with an occasional ripe one or two. Along the top of the north bluff blueberries were most abundant and sweet. We ate our way through handsful of berries. In the pine thickets the dark trunks and emerald green grass carpet stood out in patches of sunlight; no it did not rain until we were finished with a late lunch at the Crust. It was not a long hike but a very interesting one. Pictures

Joette Carter Hosts Memorial Day Festivities

Perhaps "festivities" is a bit of an overstatement for what is typically a rather laid back event at Jehovah Jireh. Thanks go to Joette for hosting this annual event involving food, good friends, a few dogs, a paddle boat, canoes, kayaks, horse shoes, swimming, fishing, and everyone taking a shower together. We had a beautiful day until the rains came but the hike was good and all were back before the showers started.

Adams Falls Trail Reroute - Short Springs

So far this spring we have had two work parties at Short Springs (the first April 12 (8) and one more May 30 (3). Together it is estimated that at least 500 feet have been rerouted to reduce erosion and lessen the grades. Dr Wally Bigbee is our coodinator with one foot in the TTA chapter and the other in the Friends of Short Springs camp. Here are a couple of pictures of yesterday's work party. We are making this a 5th Saturday event with the next one to be in August. Of course if anyone wants to get out there and do trail work just give Wally a call, BigB@Blomand.com . Thanks to Ellen A, Ross R, Frances S, Barry S, Kaine H, Marietta P, Dave A, and Doug R.
