Overnight Float Trip - on Elk

The Float trip was a real success. Nora did a great job with the coordination of the rather complicated shuttles, arrangments for place to stay, and the other logistics. Here are my pictures http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=18272&id=1640240589&l=6df1d77dd2 Thanks for all that joined and made this such a good event.

River Mist

Cool and enveloping fog;
Swallowed the floaters,
Obscured the tangled logs,
Hid timid turtles and frogs.

Eerie and moistening mist
Left reflective drops
On faces, glasses and boat tops,
While the river flows and never stops.

Stuart Coulter AT hike in Pictures and Coordinates

Stuart Coulter recently hiked part of the AT near Vogel State park in northern GA. He has been posting these trips from time to time on a rather unique website that tracks the trip along with specific locations for each of the pictures. (see earlier posts on blogsite). You might find this useful when planning a trip. Cathleen, you especially should look at this as it is covering your ridge running area. He writes ..."hiked south from Unicoi Gap to Jarrad Gap, then down to Lake Winfield Scott. Went about 10 miles the first day to Low Gap Shelter, where I tented. then went about 10.5 to Neal\'s Gap. That was far for me, but due to bears, no camping was allowed from 348 to Neal\'s Gap. Spent night in hostel. Third day, climbed up Blood mtn, had lunch, then down past Slaughter Gap, Bird Gap, Jarrad gap. Temps were in 50\'s and windy, but not a cloud in the sky , so it was cooking me. It did not get down to freezing first night in tent at Low Gap. For further information contact Stuart directly.

Short Spring Trail Building

As of Saturday, May 30, 2009 we have just a little bit to go to finish the Adams Trail effort. Workers met at 8:45AM and hiked in about one mile to continue with the rerouting efforts Falls Trail. Participants were Wally Bigbee and Tom Bentley plus 10 trustees thank to Sherrif Steve Graves. We finished about 170 feet and preped several hundred feet more. Wally supplied the sport drinks and FOSS the chicken lunch from KFC for the guys brought to the site by Marietta and Jim Poteet. Thanks to the coordinator Wally Bigbee. We will discuss this arrangement with the group at DW Wilson this Tuesday at 7:00 and/or over dinner at Camino Real at 5:30.

Robert Davis

I just got off the phone with Robert. He is in Wind Gap PA with a twisted ankle and other foot injuries. He is debating whether to lay up or return home. I suggest he contact some friends who live just a few miles away. Good luck Robert

6/11/09 Robert writes: "made it to Delaware water Gap (if I cross the bridge over the Delaware River I would be in New Jersey) but not without misfortune. The Pa. rocks took their toll on my ankle and foot. I have twisted my left ankle several times and my right arch has a sore tendon. In order not to sustain permanent injury, on June 5, 2009 I decided to go home. Upon arriving at home I came down with a severe chest infection. My chest is clearing and the results of the xrays of my ankle will be back next week. If at all possible and if I feel their is enough time to continue this year before Katahdin shuts down I will go back to the trail this year. If not then I will try next year. Since I only have about 900 miles to finish the trail, the Lord willing I will go on. A special thanks to the group of hikers, and the church and it members I met at the Church on the Mountain."
