What a trip...rain like I have never seen it before on the river. (Tuesday was a near rain free version of the trip with 6 paddlers). We had 11 paddlers and 9 craft. The portage saw a couple of tumbles on the mud but no serious injuries. But like clockwork at 12:01 as promised by the Weather Channel it cleared off as we finished lunch under the shed area of Cortner's Mill. The group from Murfreesboro was most welcome. It was a nice sunny afternoon. This was not a long trip, about 6 miles but we did see otter, blue heron, ducks, and cows. Greeter Falls Hike
Thanks to Tony and Millette Jones for this post...
The Greeter Falls for a Hike & Swim this past Saturday , was a nominal 6 mile hike along the rim. Although we were expecting hot weather we were lucky that the day was mostly cloudly and there was a breeze...this luck ran out when the clouds opened up and rained on us for the last 45 minutes of our hike! It cooled us off at least! We had four hikers from Highland Rim and four from Murfreesboro attend the hike which was expertly led by Jim & Marietta Poteet. After our hike and a quick change of clothes we enjoyed a great dinner at Papa Ron's in Monteagle.
Check out Dick McClure's improvised rain jacket...I only wish I had gotten a shot of Ann Ford's improvised rain hat!!! Pictures

Float Trip - Shiloh to Dickey Bridge
We had a great 8 mile float from Shiloh Bridge to Dickey Bridge on the Elk River. Barbie Taylor coordinated the canoe and kayak rentals, and food...thanks. Seven canoes, 15 kayaks for a total of 30 were present in addition to many other groups on th river. This was a TTA + Tullahoma High 1973 (+ or - a few years) reunion. We had a few first timers; let's hope they continue. The wildlife was out in force and we saw multiple turtles, a snake, a fat groundhog and a raccoon (see pictures). Gary Fergus was host for the day bringing a cooler of fruit, cheese, crackers, shrimp and wine to share for our lunch on the river. After our float we all headed to Gary's country home where we had a dinner of grilled kabobs, veggies, rice and a table of potluck desserts. Here are two sets of pictures: Highland Rim Pictures/ Murfreesboro Pictures thanks to Camille and Millette (the poorer ones are mine).
