Trails and Trillium Hike Leaders
Jim Poeteet writes; "I am putting together the program of hikes for this year's Trails and Trillium event, to be be held the weekend of April 20-22, at the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly.
(* means will probably be offered in both sessions)
As you know, Trails and Trilliums now benefits the Friends of South Cumberland, and most of the hikes will be in the State Park, although we will also visit some of our old favorites, such as the delightful Shakerag Hollow Trail at Sewanee.
You are receiving this email because you have either helped out with hikes at previous Trails and Trilliums events, or have expressed an interest in doing so this year. Please respond to this email and let me know if you are available to help, if you would be able to serve either as a hike leader, a hike helper, or in a support role (registering hikers, dispatching transportation, etc.) We've included a list of the tentative hikes below, so please indicate your hike preference. If you have another trail that you would like to see included, indicate that as well.
Also, if you have a friend that might be interested in helping with the hikes, or with the Trails and Trilliums event in general, let me know.
Thanks ... Jim jimpoteet@blomand.net

Savage Gulf Marathon
This event is coordinated by the Tennessee Park Ranger Association and proceeds go towards the Scholarship Fund, providing Tennessee State Park Rangers with access to quality training opportunities not otherwise available. The Friends of South Cumberland are assisting with the event
The inaugural Savage Gulf Marathon route will begin and end at the Stone Door Ranger Station. Runners will begin along the Big Creek Rim Trail before descending into the gorge through the Great Stone Door. After running up the Collins Gulf, and around the rim, the route will once again drop into the gorge on the Stagecoach Road Historic Trail. A run up Big Creek to Alum Gap brings the runner out of the gorge one more time before the final connection along the Laurel Trail back to Stone Door Road to reach 26.2 miles at the finish line.
