Another good work day at Short Springs

Nine people came and worked at Short Springs Natural Area on Saturday April 30,2011. It was a fifth Saturday of a month tradition for volunteers of the Highland Rim Chapter of the Tennessee Trails Association. Tom Hartvigsen brought his power saw and brush trimmer and led Team A to the Laurel Bluff Trail crossing where they replaced the near side bridge boards with a 2'x10' x 8 ft board. They then proceeded around the loop cutting logs and brush from the trail. Wally Bigbee, trip coordinator, led Team C in setting directional signs at the two junctions of Adams Falls and Machine Falls trails. These signs indicate by arrows the direction to the parking lot. After setting the signs the team hiked around the Adams Falls loop brushing the corridor. Team C was back at the parking lot at about noon but team A worked much longer. The volunteers were joined by Cub Scouts who did geo-caching and picked up trash. The Scouts were led by Elaine Polanski. Volunteers were Wally Bigbee, Joan and Tom Hartvigsen, Ellen Anderson, Cindy Watson, Cathleen Close, Barbie and Marcos More and Jeff Stewart, who recruited Jon Rhea and Bryan Webb. The project of exotic plant cutting and application of herbicide was not done as Natural Area Administrator Brian Bowen advised against it. Barbie More hosted workers to lunch at their home after the work.
Many thanks to Wally Bigbee for coordinating the SSNA and TTA groups as well as Elaine Posanka with her Cub Scouts. We are thankful for all patricipants.
